The Fourth Consumer Question

How businesses market to consumers will change in the coming years. In the past when I and consumers around the world would go to the store we would primarily focus on three things: how much is the good going to cost, how much of the good do we get, and how long is the good going to last? However, as more and more people become environmentally conscious consumers are beginning to ask, how sustainable is this product and the company that sells it? Sustainability of a company and the products it produces is a difficult thing to boil down into a single number, but this needs to and hopefully will happen in the near future. This label has the potential to be a key factor in making businesses in every field more sustainable. With this label in place on all goods consumers who are environmentally aware will easily be able to determine which products to purchase. Businesses such as Proctor and Gamble will obtain an increased market share due to their high level of environmentally friendly activities. If the competition wants to regain their previous market share they will have to begin conducting their business operations in a more sustainable manner. Hypothetically this label lead to a back and forth struggle between businesses with each business always trying to become more sustainable then their competitors. Hopefully this practice will eventually propel a majority of businesses to have a zero carbon footprint in the coming years.
