Procter and Gamble is a consumer goods manufacturer and part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. If you are not aware of what Procter and Gamble manufactures,  their brands including Bounty, Braun, Crest, Dawn, Gillette, Tide, and Fabreze just to name a few. Not only is Procter and Gamble an extremely successful business, posting 82.6 billion dollars in sales last year, they are also leading the way in environmentally sustainable business. On their sustainability website Procter and Gamble states that sustainability is about ensuring a better quality of life, now and for generations to come. The company has set forth many admiral long term sustainability goals including powering their plants with 100% renewable energy, using 100% renewable or recycled materials for all products and packaging, and having zero consumer and manufacture waste go to landfills. In addition to their environmental pledges, Procter and Gamble has made social responsibility pledges including funding education and safe drinking water for children in the Sub Saharan Africa region. Procter and Gamble has the goal to save a child’s life every hour by 2020. In order to do this they must deliver more than 2 billion liters of safe drinking water to developing countries every year. This pledge will save lives by saving children from dehydration and diarrhea. Proctor and Gamble is setting a great example for multi-national and multi-billion dollar companies to follow. They are not only fighting climate change, but are actively fighting to give children in third world countries better lives. More companies should follow in Proctor and Gamble’s footsteps.
