Sprint Nextel Corporation is an American telecommunications
company. Sprint is currently the third largest wireless telecommunications
network in the United States. Sprint was recently honored at the twelfth annual
Global Green Sustainable Design Awards for their phone the Samsung Replenish. The
Samsung Replenish is the fourth eco-friendly phone device added to be added to
Sprint’s ever growing portfolio of green products. The Samsung Replenish is the
first environmentally preferable Android Smartphone on the market. The Replenish
is environmentally friendly for a variety of reasons including being 82%
recyclable, having an optional solar battery charger, and is the first device
in the United States to meet UL Environment interim standards for more
sustainable mobile phones. The Replenish also comes enabled with Sprint’s Green
ID pack. This pack allows users to personalize their device with environmental focused
apps and mobile content. This is not the only environmental initiative the
Sprint has enacted. On the sustainable cell phone end, Sprint also offers the
Sprint Buyback plan where customers can get up to $350 back for giving Sprint
their old cell phone for them to recycle. IN addition to promoting electronic recycling,
Sprint has started initiative to lower is carbon footprint and using renewable
energy. Sprint powers 80% of its corporate office energy use by energy provided
by Kansas windmills. Additionally Sprint has committed to recycle 50% of their
operational waste from their commercial facilities by 2017. They are also working
to ensure that 90% of their suppliers comply with their environmental standards
by 2017 as well.
